Rich Briscoe founded Beglass in September of 2003."After
learning the basics at Jedi Glassworks, I felt that it was time to build my
own hot shop so I could take my own artistic path and see where it leads."
Located in-between Meridale and historic East Meredith NY, Rich
Briscoe (with the help of family and friends) designed and constructed the
equipment needed to blow glass." The first thing you need is fire, and a lot
of it." The propane fired furnaces take care of that, running at
temperatures up to 2400'F." The next thing you need is vision. When you
first start to make a piece it is just a molten glob. You have to be able to
picture what the piece is going to be, and then make it happen. It
goes from a raw material to a beautiful piece of glass right before your
eyes. Each "starter gather" can turn into an infinet number of things,
and with the different paths you can take to create that shape the
possibilities are endless. That is what is so intriguing about glass. you
will never know every thing about glassblowing.
" I worked in the construction
business until I was involved in the construction of a new glass
blowing studio. Once I saw them blowing glass I was hooked. That's what I
wanted to do. I still like to get involved in interesting construction
projects, but mainly work with glass."
" Other mediums I like to work with are
wood and metal. In the future I plan on meshing these together with glass,
to create even more interesting possibilities. "
